Arashiyama Sakura began as a beloved Kyoto-style kaiseki restaurant in Higashiyama’s Ishibei-koji, then moved in 2016 in search of an even deeper culinary expression. Set among Arashiyama’s riverside scenery—famous for cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, with temples and shrines nearby—the meal feels tied to the landscape. The kitchen uses high-quality water and carefully sourced ingredients, letting their natural flavors unfold gently rather than overworking them. Hinoki-focused wooden interiors and elegant tableware add a quiet sense of occasion. It’s an easy stop on a day out, about a six-minute walk from Matsuo-Taisha Station.

The traditional dishes have seasonal tastes which customers can enjoy, such as steamed abalone and crab with seasonal vegetables.

Other popular dishes include the home-made fruits dorayaki, which combines white bean paste with seasonal fruits, the home-made Chirimen-sansho(Japanese pepper) cheese and homemade roasted duck.

In summer, it is said that customers are able to see the large dai letter and torii shape made from a ceremonial bonfire at Gozan shrine.
